INTERPORC holds at MEAT ATTRACTION the final of the International Competition

The Interprofessional of White Layer Swine, INTERPORC, will hold during its participation in the second Trade Fair of the Meat Sector, MEAT ATTRACION 2018, the big final of the INTERPORC SPAIN 2018 award, on 19 September, at 12:00 hours, where six finalists from the different classification contests performed by the Interprofessional at different cities of Spain and Japan will compete. The event will be taking place within the trade fair, organised by IFEMA and the National Association of Spanish Meat Industries, ANICE, to be held from 18 to 20 September at Feria de Madrid.

Messe Berlin sets the scene for Green Week 2019

Messe Berlin is setting the scene for the International Green Week Berlin (IGW) 2019. From 18 to 27 January 2019 the world's leading consumer show for agriculture, the food industry and horticulture will be inviting trade experts and the general public to the Berlin Exhibition Grounds for the eighty-fourth time. This is the first time a northern European country will be represented as partner country of the fair. The focus will be on Finland which, taking as its slogan ’Greetings from the wild’, will present a wealth of local specialities. They include foods from Arctic farming production, types of wheat that grow in sub-Arctic conditions and reindeer meat from Arctic regions. Finland is the EU’s northernmost and most heavily wooded agricultural state.

Prognosfruit released apples and pears crop forecast for Europe

On 9 August 2018, close to 300 representatives of the international apple and pear sector met at the Prognosfruit Conference in Warsaw, Poland. During the conference, the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) released the 2018 European apple and pear crop estimate. This year, the apple production in the EU is set at 12,6 million T due to favourable weather conditions. This represents a recovery of 36% compared to last year’s low crop but is only a 3% increase compared to the average crop of 2014 to 2016. The pear crop is predicted at 2,3 million T, increasing by 4% compared to 2017.

International Asparagus Days, a meeting point for the asparagus supply chain

Preparations are currently underway for the International Asparagus Days, a fully-fledged supply chain event to be held in the renovated pavilions of Cesena Fiera from 16 to 18 October 2018. It will be attended by professionals from the entire asparagus supply chain: not only seed companies and plant nurseries, but also cultivation and harvesting machinery, packing and packaging machinery, as well as production and technical equipment. Just over two months before the event, a large number of participants is expected to attend: 50% of participating exhibitors and sponsors are from abroad and 300 international professionals have already registered.

Interpoma, nine guided tours to discover all the secrets of apple production in Trentino Alto Adige

The only trade show in the world dedicated solely to apple production is offering guided tours to farms and other businesses to see at first hand the innovations being introduced in the sector. The Interpoma Innovation tours and the Melinda Tour are this year’s big news. Interpoma, the only international trade show dedicated to apples, to be held at Fiera Bolzano from November 15 to 17, has enriched its program with a series of guided tours reserved for apple sector professionals.

The apple-growing revolution in Poland

The apple-growing revolution of the 1990s changed the cultivation structure of Polish orchards and introduced varieties like, among others, Jonagold, Golden, Sampion and Gala. Due to harsh winters causing risk of freezing trees and too short growing season Poland is not a suitable land for growing many varieties that are popular in the southern countries. Granny Smith, Fuji, Braeburn, among others, are not grown in Poland because of that second factor. On the other hand, there are many varieties that appear to find our climate satisfying, even beneficial.
