EUROPEAN APPLE AND PEAR CROP FORECAST, August 2017

During the Prognosfruit conference, the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA), released the 2017 European apple and pear crop estimates. The 2017 apple production in the EU will decrease by 21% compared to last year’s crop, standing at 9.343.000 T. The pear crop is predicted by European growers to be relatively stable at 2.148.000 T and to only decrease by 1% compared to 2016.

Large drop in European apple production as Interpoma 2018 approaches

Europe’s harvest in the 2017/2018 apple-growing season will be smaller than in recent years. The main European producers will see smaller harvests in the 2017/2018 apple-growing season, according to Prognosfruit estimates. The next Interpoma, to be held at Fiera Bolzano from 15 to 17 November 2018, is an opportunity to take stock of the situation.

Fruit and vegetable market in Poland

In the 2017/18 season, the retail prices will rise and the consumption of fruit and their preserves will decrease. The expected decrease in the prices of imported vegetables may result in the decrease in the average retail prices of vegetables and increase in their consumption.
