At Macfrut the spotlight is on strawberries

The symbol of rebirth of the Italian fresh produce industry and representative fruit of spring will be the star of the "Strawberry Days", a series of initiatives to be held from 7 to 13 May in holiday resorts in the Romagna Riviera in conjunction with the international fruit and vegetable trade fair. In 2020, Rimini will host a major international strawberry symposium that is expected to attract 1,000 researchers from all over the world.

ExCeL London welcomed thousands of international buyers, suppliers and distributors as IFE 2017 invited the world to London. Buyers came from across the food and drink industry.The organisers were delighted that while maintaining the visitor number, there was a significant increase in visitors with purchasing authority, rising from 65% to 78%.

There are still too many products that are displaying fruits prominently on their packaging, despite little to no actual fruit content, confirming the main findings of a previous study in 2010. Out of the 188 products investigated from 13 EU Member States (covering 80% of the EU population), only 20% had a fruit content of 50% or more.

Sticky traps plus scouting delivers best

During the early phase in the cultivation of fruit and vegetable crops sticky traps make ideal scouting tools for whiteflies and/or thrips. Many growers routinely change the traps every two weeks to monitor pests year round. Those who count and register pests caught on traps on a weekly basis get the greatest benefits, as measurement is the key to knowledge.
