PERU PARTNER COUNTRY OF MACFRUT

Peru will be the Partner Country of Macfrut 2016. After attending the last edition with a stand sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade with the presence of several fruit and vegetable exporters, Peru will be a protagonist of the 2016 edition of Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector organised by Cesena Fiera, to be held from 14 to 16 September in the pavilions of Rimini Fiera.

EU-Extension of economic sanctions against Russia

The EU reconfirmed the extension of economic sanctions on Russia until the 31st of January 2017. This announcement came after the decision of Russia at the 29th of June 2016, to prolong the embargo on food products for the next 18 month. Freshfel regrets this on-going political dispute, which severely hit the trade of fresh produce. The introduction of the ban in August 2014 affected an export volume of 2.5 million T of fruit and vegetable worth more than € 2.2 billion.

MACFRUT 2016 will see the participation of 100 new exhibitors

95% of spaces already sold two and a half months before the start of the trade fair. The Macfrut management is working at full speed to organise the trade fair, with a constantly growing interest from companies in the sector. In fact, as of today, 100 new exhibitors have confirmed their participation at Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector organised by Cesena Fiera.

New Europatat Board elected

Today, in advance of the 2016 Congress that this year will be celebrated together with Freshfel Europe on 2 of June, Europatat celebrated its Commission meetings and its 68th Assembly General Meeting. A new Board has been elected by the membership to channel and lead the association for the coming next years.

That definitely applies to spider mite. “It’s difficult to predict when exactly the first spider mites will appear on the leaves of young trees”, says John Van Eijk, advisor at Biobest Nederland. “In greenhouses, spider mites may already be active now, but outdoor growers have a little more time to take action.”

Attendance higher at MedFEL

The eighth edition of MedFEL recorded a slight rise in the number of visitors attending the exhibition. The international fruit and vegetable business trade fair held in Perpignan on 26 - 28 April 2016 welcomed 6,122 visitors, up by 5%. A large number of B2B meetings were arranged over the 3-day event. This year’s exhibition has been a success, was the verdict of Chantal Passat who chairs the MedFEL Organising Committee.
