International Fruit Summit at Lake Constance strengthens industry solidarity

The Fruchtwelt Bodensee delivered an abundance of impulses on the latest hot topics, again underscoring its position as the most important industry trade show for fruit growers, farmers and distillers. Matching its all-time record of 381 exhibitors from 13 countries, the eighth edition of the international trade show drew 15,900 visitors (2016: 16,900) to the fairgrounds in Friedrichshafen. With agriculture minister Peter Hauk in attendance, the 38th Lake Constance Fruit Cultivation Days offered lectures and discussions that helped strengthen solidarity in the fruit growing industry in these economically turbulent times.

Organised by IFEMA and FEPEX, the fair will be held from Tuesday 23 to Thursday 25 October 2018

The world elite of the Avocado and Mango industry at the Tropical Fruit Congress

Preparations are fully underway for the first edition of the Tropical Fruit Congress, the only European summit on avocados and mangoes to be hosted at Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable industry. Three months before the event, more than 100 participants from all over the world have already registered, including the main producer countries (Chile, Mexico, California and Spain, the first in Europe) and leading importers (first of all, the Netherlands).

By 2030 there will be 1 billion extra consumers ready to be served across the globe.

Task Force on Fruit and Vegetable research presents policy recommendations regarding position of fruit and vegetable sector in EU’s R&I policy

On 23 January 2018, Freshfel Europe (the European Fresh Produce Association) and A.R.E.F.L.H. (the European Assembly of fruit, vegetable and horticulture regions) organised in coordination with the two European university and research centre networks for fruit and vegetable related research, EUFRIN and EUVRIN, a conference on the research priorities for the fruit and vegetable sector for the current Horizon 2020 funding programme and its successor, Framework Programme 9 (FP9).

WAPA Southern Hemisphere and consolidated Northern Hemisphere crop forecast: Industry cautiously optimistic about 2018 campaign

The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) held its Annual General Meeting at the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin on 9 February. Representatives of the key global apple and pear producing and exporting countries met to discuss the Southern Hemisphere production forecast, the final update of the Northern Hemisphere, and the various actions regarding marketing, promotion, and sustainability within their countries.

Fruchtwelt Bodensee 2018: International summit meeting for fruit growers and farmers

The Port of Gdansk Authority has the ambition for the port to become the most important transport facility in the region by 2020 through the dynamic development of container handling capacity. Therefore, Asian markets are key partners for the Port of Gdansk. On year to year basis, the Port of Gdansk is a stronger competitor for deepwater ports in Western Europe. Due to long-term development plans it may become the biggest port of the Baltic Sea.

Innovations in the offer of air transport logistics for the food industry

At present, Poland holds the rank of European Union’s 8th greatest exporter of agricultural and food products (risen from the 11th place it held in 2004). According to our Central Statistical Office (GUS), in all of 2016 Poland exported 24.2 billion Euros worth of food products, topping the worth of imported food products by 7.1 billion Euro. The share of agricultural products in Polish export has been increasing for years, which proves Poland’s comparative advantage as a producer of food.
