Regional flavours at Grüne Woche 2024
12 December 2023
It's getting local: German federal states present regional delicacies and a sense of home at Grüne Woche.
Anyone who travels regionally knows that there are plenty of culinary delights and scenic highlights to discover in Germany. Visitors to Grüne Woche 2024 from 19 to 28 January will be able to see this for themselves. Twelve federal states will be showcasing what German regionality has to offer at the Berlin Exhibition Centre. Whether looking over your shoulder in the show kitchen, sipping a new vintage in the wine lounge or planning your next bike tour - a diverse range of experiences awaits fans of food and nature.
The following federal states will be represented in the halls at Grüne Woche 2024: Baden-Württemberg (5.2a), Bavaria (22b), Berlin (22a), Brandenburg (21a), Hesse (6.2a), Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (5.2b), Lower Saxony (20), North Rhine-Westphalia (5.2a), Rhineland-Palatinate (6.2a), Saxony (21b), Saxony-Anhalt (23b), Thuringia (20).
Baden-Württemberg: Maultaschen and Black Forest sausageBaden-Württemberg cuisine has a lot to offer: Whether wine or beer specialities, good ham or Maultaschen: Hall 5.2a makes you feel like you're in the south. Trade fair visitors are welcome to visit the show kitchen four times a day to watch various specialities being prepared. It's not just about culinary delights - visitors can find out more about Baden-Württemberg with augmented reality glasses in the 3D cinema and be inspired for their next trip south.
Bavaria: Beer garden feeling with delicaciesHave you ever tried sausage from a Bavarian straw pig? Whether Franconian wine, beer specialities or Allgäu cheese spaetzle: Bayernhalle 22b is traditionally tasty. In a cosy beer garden atmosphere, you can taste your way through Bavarian cuisine. In the special area "Almen und Alpen - Milcherzeugung auf Bayerisch" (Alpine pastures and alps - milk production in Bavarian), you can experience cheese variations and technical innovations relating to pasture farming. But tradition is not just about food: Traditional costume wearers and a brass band round off the visit to the Bayernhalle.
Berlin: smoothie biking and food rescueIn Hall 22a, the "Berlin Nutrition Strategy" presents its various players and entices visitors with numerous hands-on activities. There is something for every age group: organic cooking in the show kitchen or would you prefer to feast on rescued food? Pedalling on the smoothie bike or putting your intellect to the test in the climate quiz? There's never a dull moment in the Berlin-Halle. Children can also experience nutrition in a practical way here - for example at a tomato exhibition or one of the numerous workshops for school classes.
Brandenburg: Wine lounge celebrates its premiereThe traditional brands are a must in the Brandenburg Hall (21a): Spreewald gherkins, Beelitz asparagus and various sausage specialities will be there as always at Grüne Woche. The wine lounge, where various Brandenburg wines can be tasted, will celebrate its premiere in 2024. Every stand invites visitors to discover and get to know Brandenburg - true to the motto: "Try, network, show yourself!"
The Hessians are coming!People who don't come from Hesse have often never heard of it: "Green sauce" is made from seven different herbs and served with jacket potatoes and boiled eggs or schnitzel. At Grüne Woche, it will be presented in various forms: in high-proof gin, stirred into ice cream or the classic way: fresh and homemade. Also on offer in Hall 6.2a are sustainable quinoa produced in Hesse and classics such as Äppelwoi or Ahle Worscht from North Hesse.
Mecklenburg-Western PomeraniaMecklenburg-Vorpommern's scenic attractions include the Baltic Sea and the Müritz - at Grüne Woche, the state will also be presenting its culinary side in Hall 5.2b. "Food and drink keep body and soul together and nobody should be indifferent to what's on their plate. With this in mind, I am convinced that the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Hall will once again be one of the crowd-pullers at next year's Grüne Woche. Guests can look forward to familiar and new delicacies: In addition to game products, fish and sausage and beer specialities from high-profile companies, there will once again be a number of smaller suppliers who will be exhibiting at the Green Week for the first time," announces Agriculture Minister Dr Till Backhaus for 2024.
Lower Saxony: Innovative at the start-up standTea in tablet form, organic mustard made from mustard seeds from Lower Saxony, lupin coffee - there are all kinds of handmade products to try at the startup stand of the Lower Saxony Innovation Centre. Those who prefer a meaty flavour can also get pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwiches refined with special oils made from camelina or poppy seeds in Hall 20. These are also made from the farm's own seeds, of course. Fans of the "milk bar" will also find what they are looking for this year. There are also special potato snacks such as potato sushi to savour.
North Rhine-Westphalia: Sustainable travellingYou won't get thirsty here. North Rhine-Westphalia will be presenting its regionally produced and sustainable range of drinks in Hall 5.2a - from environmentally friendly packaged oat drinks and lupin coffee made from roasted seeds to refreshing drinks such as water with pure fruit extract. Sustainable production and animal welfare go hand in hand, so visitors to the fair can sample high-quality sausage and meat products from suckler cow husbandry in addition to drinks. Those who prefer traditional flavours will also get their money's worth: sweet fruit spreads, cheese, Westphalian ham on the bone and beer are not to be missed. NRW also has a lot to offer in terms of scenery: The regions of East Westphalia-Lippe, the Lower Rhine, the Bergisches Land, the Münsterland or the conurbations on the Rhine and Ruhr invite you to explore the culinary delights as well as the tourist attractions.
Rhineland-Palatinate: paradise for "gold sippers"Rhineland-Palatinate is Germany's number one wine state. Grapes are grown on over 64,500 hectares in the state's six wine-growing regions. This corresponds to around two thirds of the total area under cultivation in Germany. Around 6,800 wineries produce around six million hectolitres of wine and sparkling wine from the grapes. In the Wine Lounge in Hall 6.2.a, Rhineland-Palatinate presents itself as a "paradise for wine lovers". Excellent wines and sparkling wines from the Rheinhessen, Palatinate, Mosel, Nahe, Ahr and Middle Rhine wine-growing regions make the search for gold an experience that is rounded off with culinary specialities from all parts of the state. Apart from gourmet wine, the federal state also has a lot to offer travellers. Rhineland-Palatinate stretches from the Eifel, the Ahr, the Westerwald and the romantic Rhine to the Mosel-Saar region, the Hunsrück and the Lahn Valley, the Nahe and Rheinhessen and, in the very south, the Palatinate. Visitors are invited to discover the federal state. The Saxon way - enjoyable, sustainable, innovative
Tradition meets innovation in the Sachsenhalle (21b). Fans of spicy flavours will get their money's worth here with salami with whisky, porcini mushrooms or lavender flowers and tasty brewing specialities. Those who like it particularly sustainable can try white fish and find out about near-natural fishing. Saxony also presents itself as a travel destination and attracts guests to the state with Saxon specialities such as the "Leipziger Lerche".
Saxony-AnhaltModern stand construction and a successful reorganisation offer visitors to the Saxony-Anhalt Hall (23b) an even more impressive trade fair experience. The sharpened regional focus and the intuitive combination of the food industry and tourism create an enjoyable trade fair mix. For example, the Saale-Unstrut wine region invites visitors to linger in a wine lounge. The Böllberg brewery of Lebenshilfe Halle e.V. will be presenting an award-winning cellar beer for the first time.
Thuringia: Cooking dumplings and kebabs at homeThe new umbrella brand "My Region" is a commitment to Thuringia's own identity. True to the motto "regional can do more", the joint stand in Hall 20 aims to show how important all stakeholders are for the future of Thuringia: from companies in the agriculture and food industry and horticulture to tourism associations in rural regions. Culinary highlights include black vegan mango ice cream and "Dönerback" - the doner kebab for at home. Hildburghausen will be presenting itself as a focal region, including cookery demonstrations with handmade "Kloß-Zwerwl" (dumplings): here you can gain practical insights into the fine art of baking dumplings.
