Macfrut, many presentations by the participating countries

Macfrut, the international trade fair for the fresh produce industry, which is currently underway at the Rimini Expo Centre and will end today, 6 May, has attracted many foreign participants. The African continent is represented by more than 200 professionals from Angola, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Somalia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Innovative biosolutions awarded at Macfrut

During Macfrut, the second edition of the Biosolutions International Award ceremony was held. This award was created by Agri2000 to present innovations in the field of plant protection and nutrition that use natural methods: in fact, as outlined in the Green Deal, this sector is set to become even more important in the agricultural industry. The three award-winning companies distinguished themselves for creating highly innovative products.

Macfrut, the 39th edition has officially begun

The 39th edition of the international trade fair for the fresh produce industry, underway until 6 May at the Rimini Expo Centre (Italy), kicked off yesterday. A total of 830 exhibitors are present (28% from abroad) in a 40,000-square-metre area. Renzo Piraccini, President of Macfrut: ‘Although globally there is great uncertainty and the atmosphere is tense due to the war in Ukraine, this edition of Macfrut started with great optimism.

WAPA releases April’s apple and pear stock figures

WAPA, the World Apple and Pear Association, released today the apple and pear stock figures from 1 April 2022. The figures show that in Europe apple stocks increased by 13.1% compared to 2021 to reach 2,180,415 T, while pear stocks decreased by 24.6% to 206,181 T. In the USA, apple stocks as of 1 April 2022 stood at 1,014,826 T (+4% compared to 2021), while pear stocks reached 73,215 T (45.6% above 2021).

Spotlight on avocado at the Tropical Fruit Congress: a comprehensive global overview

Technology, innovation and new varieties during tours Interpera 2022

Interpera 2022 will bring together the international pear sector from 28 to 30 June. In addition to the Interpera conference day, the organisers have prepared pear technical visits that just cannot be missed! During the two technical days on 28 and 30 June the visitors will be taught about the Dutch pear cultivation. The program is a mix of knowledge exchange, company visits and demonstrations of new cultivation techniques.

The main European hazelnut players create Group Corylus Europae

A new flow wrap packaging culture

A technical-scientific project to investigate the evolution of flow wrap packaging, from its birth to possible future evolutions. The study, curated by two researchers of the Politecnico di Torino in collaboration with several leading companies and specialised groups in the packaging sector, led to the publication of a White Paper entitled “Flow wrap packaging: the most with the least. High protection, low impact.”

Raspberry Development in Processing and Fresh Sectors

The global raspberry sector continues to grow, as it does with the other main berry types. Raspberries for fresh consumption have the biggest name in the marketplace, but processed berries are a major part of the berry industry. Further, there has been a recent increase in demand for frozen raspberries. Much of this is attributed to the increase in healthy eating and drinking, particularly with smoothies and similar drinks.
