Sixth International Post-Harvest Conference at FRUIT ATTRACTION 2017

17 July 2017
The ninth FRUIT ATTRACTION trade fair will host the 6th edition of Postharvest Unlimited, which will be attended by scientists, researchers, and specialists from around the world. They will tackle all aspects of the fruit and vegetable post-harvest period, from production to distribution and sale. Sponsored by the International Association of Horticultural Sciences and organised by the Miguel Hernández University of Alicante and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), specifically, the Soil Science and Applied Biology of the Segura, in Murcia, it will take place from 17 to 20 October in Madrid and Alicante.

The purpose of the conference is to provide participants, researchers, specialists, scientists with opportunities to communicate and discuss aspects of post-harvest fruit and vegetable quality, from production and distribution to sales. This will enable researchers and production company representatives, processors and fruit and vegetable distributors to enter into collaboration agreements.
The 6th Postharvest Unlimited consists of a scientific programme, with plenary sessions by international speakers, oral sessions, and different types of presentations. This scientific programme will be held, as part of FRUIT ATTRACTION, in the Sala Retiro and in Room A10.8, one day before the trade fair opens, on Tuesday, 17 October, and until Thursday, 19 October. On the final day, Friday, 20 October, participants will travel to Alicante on a field trip.
Some sessions will cover key aspects of research into postharvest procedures and industrial advances. The postharvest period covers everything from cultivation to its arrival to consumers or until the product is used as a raw material for subsequent processing.
There will be presentations of basic research into postharvest physiology and physiological disorders and postharvest treatments applied to control. There will also be a specific section for flowers, including solutions for lengthening their useful life and understanding of senescence. Other subjects on the agenda will be advanced analystic technologies, such as metabolics, applied to quality control and the healthy effects of fruit and vegetables with an evaluation of changes in bioactive compounds. The event will also look at aspects of food safety, such as natural plant microbiotics and causes of changes and decay. There will be presentations of the latest innovations in post-harvest technologies, including controlled and modified atmospheres, optimised packaging, and ethylene management, as well as suitable conditions during the supply chain to reduce postharvest losses.

The International Association for Horticultural Science (ISHS) is a global network consisting of more than 53,000 people, universities, governments, institutions, libraries and businesses, whose purpose is to promote and encourage research and education in all branches of horticultural science, and facilitate cooperation and knowledge transfer on a global scale through symposia and congresses, publications, and scientific structure.
The ISHS organises its Annual Conference in a chosen country and in certain entities in that country.  The 6th Conference will be organised by the Miguel Hernández University in Alicante and the Centre for Soil Science and Applied Biology of the Segura (CEBAS_CSIC), and will take place in Spain from 17 to 20 October, mainly in FRUIT ATTRACTION.
