Fish and seafood: a wide-ranging culinary experience

4 October 2017

At the International Green Week Berlin 2018 the Hamburg-based Fish Information Centre (FIZ) will be presenting a wide variety of fish. From 19 to 28 January it will be displaying a rich selection of fish, seafood and algae on a ten square-metre bed of ice – impressive proof that there is more to tasty fish than fish fingers and tinned products.

According to Dr. Matthias Keller, managing director of the FIZ, “This display of 70 different species of fish, crustaceans and molluscs is unique the world over, and can only be seen at the International Green Week Berlin. Our expert team of scientists and practitioners will also be on hand. Where else could one find such a wide range of in-depth information about fish and seafood as on the stand of the Fish Information Centre?“

The exhibition by FIZ in Hall 14.1 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds with its variety of fish from rivers, lakes and oceans is a major visual attraction in itself. The silver shimmer of herrings, the playful colours of parrot fish and the red spots of plaice will all give an impressive display of what nature has to offer. Looking at fish is one thing, tasting them is quite another. At his daily cooking demonstrations and sampling sessions FIZ chef Robert will have lots of tips and suggestions on how to enjoy fish at home.

Eating fish, crustaceans and molluscs is healthy too. Scientists from the Max Rubner Institute will be on the FIZ stand to answer any health questions regarding fish and seafood diets. They will also be able to tell visitors which fish are rich in Omega 3 fat acids, iodine, vitamins and minerals. Scientists from the Thünen Institute and the Leibniz Institute will also be available to give information.
