Europatat Congress 2018 – New speakers confirmed

Under the slogan “Potatoes: a healthy, sustainable and responsible sector”, the Congress will focus on the many assets of the sector in the, both politically and technical key areas of health, sustainability and responsibility of the business.

The organisers are now delighted to announce that the opening session of the Congress on 4 May will count with the participation of two renowned speakers, namely:
• Mr Michael Scannell, graduate in economics and politics from University College Dublin and official of the European Commission since 1991. He is currently Director for the Food Chain – Stakeholder and International Relations in the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety. He was until recently Director of the Food and Veterinary Office which was responsible for promoting proper enforcement and compliance with EU requirements on food safety, animal and plant health in both EU Member States and third countries.
• Prof. Gunter Pauli, a Belgian-born entrepreneur and author of “The Blue Economy”. He is a passionate lecturer and has been called "The Steve Jobs of sustainability". He has been active as an entrepreneur setting up a dozen companies, a lecturer at the Politecnico di Torino and the University of Pecs, and commentator in culture, science, politics, sustainability, innovation, and the environment for different media. He is a member of The Club of Rome, speaks several languages and has travelled to every continent.
Later in the morning, Tania Santivañez, Regional Agricultural Officer at the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, and Loes Neven, Senior nutritionist and coordinator at the Flemish Institute for Healthy Living, will take part in the second session of the Congress, dedicated to the thematic “Health & sustainability in the potato sector go hand in hand”. A last session in the afternoon will look at “People and Community at the cornerstone of the potato sector”. Further speakers will be announced very soon!
