FRUIT ATTACTION has a new, specialised area for nuts: THE NUTS HUB

6 March 2017
This year, the ninth edition of FRUIT ATTRACTION will take place from 18 to 20 October 2017 in Halls 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Among other new features, there will be a new exhibition area this year called THE NUTS HUB. This part of the trade fair will focus entirely on nuts, adding to shine the spotlight on specific sectors.

The all-new ´THE NUTS HUB´ at Fruit Attraction 2017 will be a place for the nut trade to present its products. It will also be a networking opportunity for the entire industry and distribution channel. This year’s FRUIT ATTRACTION is set to be better than ever. It is the most comprehensive promotional platform for the sectors, and is scheduled at the optimal moment of the year for these industries.

Spain’s primary nut crops consist of almonds, with 195,699 tons, chestnuts, with 161,359 tons, walnuts, with 15,450 tons, hazelnuts with 13,544 tons, and pistachios with 4,052 tons, according to the latest figures published in the Agri-Food Statistical Yearbook by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2015, containing data from 2014.

When it comes to foreign trade, in 2016, Spain imported 200,312 tons of nuts worth €1,011 million, according to information released by the Customs authorities, most of which were shelled almonds. Last year, the country exported 109,603 tons of nuts worth €684.2 million.

Regarding the European Union, the Community imported 1.3 million tons of nuts in 2016, 440,253 tons of which were intra-community transactions and 886,221 from third countries, according to unconsolidated data released by Eurostat 2016, processed by FEPEX. Nut imports from the EU increased by 2.5% in comparison to 2015.

The ninth edition of FRUIT ATTRACTION, organised by IFEMA and FEPEX, is expected to be a busy event, with more than 1,500 companies from the horticultural sector value chain. This data represents a 20% improvement over the success achieved in 2016.
