Spring landscapes in bloom

26 November 2015

In 2016 the International Green Week Berlin celebrates its 90th anniversary, and it is Berlin’s allotment holders who are largely responsible for the fact that the world’s leading trade show for agriculture, food and horticulture has been in existence for so long. It was in response to their initiative that this event was revived towards the end of the summer of 1948, following the Second World War. And in 2016 these leisure-time gardeners will again be delighting the public with their modern, colourful and extensive presentation, from 15 to 24 January. The Brandenburg Regional Associations and the Baden-Württemberg Allotment Holders’ Association will be the guests of Berlin’s gardening enthusiasts in 2016. In addition to enjoying a spring landscape in bloom, visitors to Hall 2.2 can also obtain expert advice on all gardening matters. Rounding off the presentation by allotment holders will be a varied, entertaining and informative stage programme from radioBERLIN 88,8, whose concept is being implemented in a number of attractive ways with the support of the magazine GartenFlora

“Horticulture – naturally healthy”

Horticulture is very diverse, its products are healthy and beneficial, and the gardening profession has an important part to play in society. As in previous years, the National Horticultural Association (ZVG) and its co-exhibitors will be presenting visitors with a colourful stand at the Green Week 2016. At the IGW 2015 the focus was on apples on the ZVG stand, and next year attention will shift to vegetables and edible fungi. Using the slogan ‘Horticulture – naturally healthy’, the ZVG will be providing interested visitors with details about tasty and healthy seasonal and regional products. At the regular sampling sessions visitors can see for themselves the quality of this horticultural produce. But of course, flowers and plants will also feature strongly on the stand, providing guests with some ‘naturally attractive moments’.
In addition the ‘plant doctor’ will be answering questions from interested amateur gardeners. Careers in horticulture are diverse, fascinating and future-proof, and the ZVG will be organising many activities that draw attention to employment opportunities and offer information about the training that is available in this field. To be successful horticulture requires effective and reliable background conditions, which is why the Green Week is such an effective platform for the ZVG, enabling it to engage in discussions with politicians.
