ABOUT 20 INTERNATIONAL JOURNALISTS GOT TO KNOW AND TASTE THE FRUIT CONSIDERED THE TASTE OF PORTUGAL, ROCHA PEAR, IN THE CONTEXT OF A JOINT INTERNATIONALIZATION PROGRAM

During  harvest season, between August 20 th and 22 nd, Rocha Pear Growers and Exporters Association (ANP) received the visit of about 20 international journalists for whom was designed a program that led its guests through Rocha Pear’s productive cycle.
A visit to the orchards, to the processing centrals and, naturally, to the tasting of this fruit in its several forms (infresh, dehydrated fruit, juices, jams, pastry or even in are freshing Rocha Pear Gin), in one of the most typical Portuguese villages, Óbidos, to the sound of Fado, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage. All this was programmed to let the visitors discover a culture with high socio economic and scenic impact in Portugal, giving that Rocha Pear is considered to represent Portuguese agriculture products worldwide.

The visit of international journalists to the region is the first action of a joint internationalization program (COMPETE 2020), promoted by ANP, that aims to promote Rocha Pear in the external markets. To increase the added value and differentiation of an unique variety, typically Portuguese, is the great challenge ANP faces during this and the next harvest season, a goal that will represent an investment of one million Euros to promote a fruit that, although already highly exported, still presents a strong potential, giving that Rocha Pear is a taste of Portugal…
