Fiera Bolzano is organising a guided visit

10 August 2016

For companies interested in expanding on the Chinese market, Fiera Bolzano is organising a guided visit – from 7 to 11 October 2016 – to the biggest apple producing province in China

In the run up to Interpoma 2016, the international apple sector trade show programmed from 24 to 26 November in Bolzano’s Exhibition Centre, companies operating in the apple trade are offered a further opportunity. For the very first time, Fiera Bolzano has organised, from next 7 to 11 October, a fact finding tour to the Shandong peninsula in China. Companies interested in finding out more about opportunities in the Chinese market can sign up for the trip and visit the region with the highest density apple production in the country.

As Yongbing Yuan, professor of fruit and vegetable sciences in the College of Horticulture and Vice President of Qingdao Agricultural University, explained on 8 June in Fiera Bolzano – in a workshop titled “Interpoma International”, many opportunities for apple growing in China – today in China huge areas are dedicated to apple growing: roughly 2.3 million hectares, with an annual production of some 38 million tons. Not many different varieties are grown, however, with a clear preponderance of Fuji accounting for almost 73% of the entire production. The market, on the other hand, has 1.4 billion consumers to offer. This makes China the world’s largest apple producer and offers excellent business opportunities to those operating in this sector.

More specifically, the province of Shandong alone accounts for 9.3 million tons per year, which is destined to grow further in coming years. The aim is to extend apple production to over 400,000 hectares by 2020, achieving a productivity of 40 tons per hectare, while cutting the cost of labour and the use of water resources by 15%, and that of fertilizers by 30%.

“The opportunities for operators in the apple sector to invest in China – explains Thomas Mur, Director of Fiera Bolzano - are absolutely massive. This is why we have decided to organise a fact finding journey in the country’s top apple growing area, to see the situation at first hand and to facilitate the establishment of contacts between local operators and exhibitors at Interpoma, just in the period leading up to our 2016 edition. As Fiera Bolzano, in fact – adds Mur – we have already carried out various visits to China, where we have seen for ourselves the huge demand for innovation expressed by local operators.”

The programme for October will involve visits to the orchards and Exhibition Centre of Weihai.
