House of Cheese to open its doors at Dubai Winter Festival

5 December 2017
European winter cheeses to bring a touch of class to proceedings at the Dubai Winter Festival; Award-wining cheesemonger, Francois Robin, to take fans on a tour of the finest cheeses Europe has to offer. Fans of cheese are in for a real treat this week as the French Dairy Board, CNIEL pays homage to the very finest cheeses from around Europe as part of the Dubai Winter Festival, taking place from 6 – 9 December at the Dubai Amphitheatre.

A mouth-watering ‘House of Cheese’ has been set up to tempt visitors at the festival to try Raclette, a traditional sharing platter of melted cheese and served with potatoes, cured meats and crusty bread. Other cheeses to be showcased by award-winning cheesemonger, Francois Robin, include Morbier, Fourme d’ambert. Bleu d’Auvergne, Saint Nectaire, Tomme de Savoie, Brie and Comté.

Under fromage aficionada Francois’ expert eye, festival-goers will be taught the best accompaniment to pair the cheese with and how to recognise the different smells and taste of each cheese –there might even be a blindfold involved!

Visitors will also be taught how to make the perfect Christmas cheese board, have the chance to try their hand at traditional winter and Christmas recipes including cheese as well as a special cheese making workshop.

Speaking about the growing popularity of European cheese in the Middle East, Francois said: “People know Parmigiano, Camembert, Roquefort and Brie but they’re not the familiar with Comté – it travels very well, and it is a firm favourite in France, we’ve been eating it for a long time. Similarly, Brillat-Savarin, has a lot of potential in the Middle East market, its like a cream and butter together in a cheese and tastes very good.”

The festival starts on Wednesday 6th December at 4pm until Saturday 9th December 10pm.
The cheese showcase is part of a European Union program dedicated to the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) quality labelling, to provide safe and high-quality products to consumers. The mark identifies a product originating in a specific place or region, whose quality is due to a particular geographical environment with its inherent natural and human factors of production in line with strict EU regulations.
