Limone di Siracusa IGP – now in Vienna

7 April 2014

The latest international event organised by the consortium for the protected geographical indication (PGI) of the “Limone di Siracusa IGP” will be held on Wednesday, 9 April at the Italian Cultural Institute.

The scent of lemons will pervade the Austrian capital. On Wednesday, 9 April lemons from Siracusa in Sicily will permeate the gardens of the Palais Sternberg, seat of the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna.

“Where the lemons blossom” is the title of the next event in the series this coming Wednesday at 7.00 pm. And the title is no coincidence but rather a tribute to the waltz of the same name by Johann Strauss, in its turn derived from Goethe’s poem “Do you know the country where the lemons bloom?”

The evening’s programme promises to surprise the Austrian public with a thematic gastronomic experience. Responsible for the evening is Corrado Assenza, dedicated ambassador of Sicilian products and the man behind a  journey of the senses is founded on research carried out by the Centro Studi Assaggiatori in Brescia. This stimulating culinary tour will highlight the special characteristics of the “Limone di Siracusa IGP” and stimulate all five senses.

Besides enjoying the incomparable quality of the fresh lemons, guests will have the opportunity to appreciate the essential oils produced by Maison Simone Gatto from San Pier Niceto, a pure concentrate of scents with medicinal applications. Corrada Assenza’s creations will be accompanied by wines from the Cantine Avide Comiso and rounded off with a ‘Limoncello di Siracusa’ from the house of Sicilsapori.

After Berlin and Paris, the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna will be the third foreign institute to host ‘Limone die Siracusa IGP’ in the course of the last three years.
