European Chestnut Meeting postponed to 2021

Given the exceptional circumstances caused by the Covid19 health and economic crises, the European chestnut network, EUROCASTANEA, and the Chestnut Interprofessional Union of the South West of France, have decided to postpone the European Meeting from September 2020 to September 2021.
To maintain the a connexion between the players in the sector, EUROCASTANEA has decided:
• to organize a webinar with commercial operators and producers' representatives on October 8, 2020 to discuss about the harvest and the market prospects for the 2020/21 season
• and, if the sanitary conditions allow it, to organize a seminar in Bordeaux on December 2 and 3 during the Vinitech / Sifel trade fair on one or more important technical themes.
It was also decided that in 2022, the European Chestnut meeting will take place in Italy, and in 2023, they will be organised for the first time in Austria.
The European chestnut production reaches more than 150 000 tonnes. Several thousands of producers support mountain regions in economic and social decline, and a wide range of healthy and natural products.

GPG brings new blackberry genetics to the market

Global Plant Genetics (GPG) and Polish Rubus breeding programme, Niwa, have just concluded a licensing arrangement for two new primocane blackberry varieties. The agreement is for GPG to represent the Maryna and Juhas cultivars in a range of international territories. Bartek Danek, Director of Niwa, stated, “it has been important for our blackberry breeding efforts to develop primocane varieties. »
Interpera2024: focus on the technical visits

Interpera 2024 will gather the international pear sector from 26 to 27 June in Óbidos, Portugal. In addition to the main conference day, the organisers have prepared pear technical visits that just cannot be missed! The participants will learn about the Portuguese pear cultivation and conservation. The programmewill mix knowledge exchange and company visits. »

Macfrut, the international event for the fresh produce sector, has once again received an enthusiastic response from exhibitors. A total of 56,200 people attended the three-day trade fair at the Rimini Expo Centre, an increase of 13% on last year. This was the most exciting edition yet, and it is clear that the sector is dynamic and confident about the future. »
