COGRIDAM Honoured by the Segura River Basin Authority on the Occasion of Its Centenary

25 January 2026

La Comunidad General de Regantes de la IDAM Águilas/Guadalentín (COGRIDAM) has received a distinction from the Segura River Basin Authority (Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura – CHS) during the official opening ceremony of the centenary celebrations marking 100 years since the institution’s establishment. The anniversary will be commemorated throughout the year with a series of events and initiatives highlighting the history and role of CHS in regional water management.

During the first jubilee event, CHS recognised key institutions directly involved in water resource management within the Segura basin, both in the areas of water supply and irrigation. Among them, COGRIDAM was acknowledged for its role as a user of desalinated water and for its active cooperation in promoting the efficient and sustainable use of this strategic resource.

At the event, held in Murcia, a panel discussion emphasised the importance of desalination as one of CHS’s major achievements in the 21st century. Particular attention was given to the development of the Águilas desalination plant (IDAM Águilas) and its significant role in successive stages of hydrological planning.

The distinction represents an incentive for COGRIDAM to continue working closely with public authorities and other stakeholders in the water sector, while also reinforcing the responsibility to carry out this mission with professionalism, commitment and a strong sense of public service.

María del Mar Soriano Oliver, Secretary General of COGRIDAM, expressed her gratitude to CHS for the recognition, stating that it is “a great honour for us and a motivation to continue working with rigor, cooperation and responsibility, as well as a commitment to further contribute to efficient and sustainable water resource management.”

The ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the century-long history of the Segura River Basin Authority, highlighting its work in one of the most complex river basins in Europe and opening the discussion on future challenges in water management.
