Amblyseius-System becomes more eco-friendly

At Biobest we are constantly looking at ways to make our packaging more sustainable. Reducing reliance on plastic is a key focus. With this in mind, our team has redesigned the packaging for the Biobest bulk Amblyseius-System replacing plastic buckets with specially designed eco-friendly paper bags. Amblyseius cucumeris is a predatory mite widely used to control thrips larvae and spider mites. Highly mobile, this predatory mite can survive on pollen in the absence of prey.

Nutrimite™ scores high marks in the Netherlands

In June 2018, Biobest Nederland performed an online survey of 141 Nutrimite™, users from the Netherlands. Biobest introduced Nutrimite™, a food supplement based on Typha pollen, onto the market in 2013. The product stimulates the population development and improves the distribution of predatory mites throughout the crop.

Interpoma Technology Award: First winners honored

While the 11th Interpoma – the apple industry’s international trade fair – was gearing up, the first Interpoma Technology Award was ceremonially presented on the opening day yesterday. The award recognizes innovative technologies and machines exhibited at the trade fair and is organized by Fiera Bolzano with the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the Italian Society of Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Growers (SOI).

Green Week 2019: Adventures with regional flavours

Shoulder of meat from Baden, ahle sausage from Hesse or Freiberg eierschecke cake: Regional specialities go down a treat with consumers and can be sampled in all their diversity at the International Green Week Berlin 2019. From 18 to 27 January some 500 exhibitors, from the coast to the Alps, will be presenting their own regional delicacies, with plenty of local colour too. Thirteen of Germany’s federal states are represented in eight halls on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, showing the wide range of regional food, beverages and luxury products that are available.

Fruit Attraction 2018 beats records and reaffirms itself as one of the main world events for the fresh produce industry

Fruit Attraction 2018 has closed the doors of its 10th edition with participation by 81,235 professionals from 122 countries, representing a growth of 19% on last year. This event has been decisive for the industry as a whole due to its capacity to bring together fruit and vegetable producers and distributors. The Fair thus demonstrates once again that it is the international meeting point for professionals in the entire supply chain; the right place at the right time.

First BioFruit Congress attracts attendance of more than 400

Within the context of double digit market growth and the new European organic laws, leading experts and retail buyers came together to discuss the future of the organic produce market under the banner of the inaugural BioFruit Congress.
The line-up of speakers – including the top organic fresh produce experts and leading European retailers of organic food (Carrefour, Coop Switzerland) – shared analysis of the current state of the organic fruit and vegetable sector and the outlook for its future.

Slightly decreased Prognosfruit forecast for European apple and pear

Due to the favourable weather events all over Europe in spring and early summer, Prognosfruit forecasted an apple crop of 12.6 million tonnes and a pear crop of 2.3 million tonnes. However, as the abundant sun and high temperatures continued over summer and turned into spells of drought in especially the northern part of Europe, several contributors to the Prognos report modified their initial apple forecast figures. The current total figure is set at 12.5 million tonnes for apple.

Pacific Green Asparagus – a new horizon in green varieties for warmer climates

Pacific Green is a new green asparagus variety adapted to both warm and more temperate climates. Seed sales are managed by Global Plant Genetics and the hybrid was bred by Dr. Peter Falloon of Aspara Pacific in New Zealand.
Commercial trials of the variety in the recent past have yielded some excellent results and the variety will soon be launched on a global scale. Jamie Petchell of Global Plant Genetics stated, “We have been closely observing test plots of Pacific Green across the world in the past three seasons.

INTERPOMA 2018

21 October 2018
Interpoma 2018, the two-yearly international trade show dedicated entirely to the apple sector, is scheduled for November 15 to 17 this year at the Bolzano trade show center: there will be a special program of evening events, themed exhibitions and tastings of apple-derived products, featuring numerous enterprises from right across the city, including restaurants and hotels, as well as bars, bakeries and confectioners.
