Sorma Group: success of the LCP-128A combination weighing machine, presented at LUV 2024

15 December 2024

Huge interest at the Bari event for the table grape packaging technology that reduces overweight and optimizes costs.

Sorma Group has taken away a positive experience from its participation at the first edition of the LUV trade fair. During the event, dedicated to the table grape supply chain and held from 22-24 October in Bari, the company showed once again why it is the market leader in the design and construction of post-harvest lines for fruit and vegetables.

At the center of attention was the innovative LCP-128A combination weighing machine, specifically designed for table grapes and cluster tomatoes. Capable of reducing overweight by 20-30 grams per pack and handling up to 55 packs per minute, the machine marks a turning point in fixed-weight packaging. It provides significant efficiency and cost optimization, with potential labor cost savings of 30-60%.

For table grapes, the first machine installed has achieved very positive results. Among the companies that are taking advantage of LCP-128A is SOP - Società Ortofrutticola Polignanese. “The machine was installed in August and immediately gave excellent results,” says Matteo D'Aprile, the owner of the company. With great simplicity of use, it saves time, labor and improves profitability by limiting overplanting.”

Additionally, the LCP-128A ensures gentle handling of fruit, preserving its integrity throughout the process. So far, 15 units have already been sold for tomato packaging, confirming the success of the technology developed by Sorma Group.

Sorma Group’s complete line, developed in collaboration with RS Bilance for labeling and checkweighing solutions and Italian Pack for the heat sealing of trays, generated strong interest among exhibition visitors. The ability to customize the line to meet specific customer requirements was a major plus for potential users, laying the groundwork for new commercial tie-ups and business opportunities. The machine’s innovative feature is the automation of completing manually pre-filled trays. It identifies the optimal missing combination of table grapes to meet the customer’s guaranteed minimum weight requirement and positions the fruit directly on the line, precisely aligned with the container to be completed.

Andrea Casali, Commercial Director at Sorma Group, expressed great satisfaction with the results achieved: “Taking part at LUV was not only an opportunity to engage with fellow industry professionals, but also a chance to gather valuable feedback and initiate new partnerships. The results we are achieving demonstrate the strength of our proposition, and we are ready to further boost our international presence.”
