New ridge cutter with innovative topsoil ridge system

With the "Titan" ridge cultivator and the associated patented topsoil ridge system, 4Disc, in cooperation with Thees Dammtec, is presenting a new, holistic cultivation method for strawberry cultivation in individual ridges. The method combines three core components: a specially developed tiller for topsoil that creates a stable, roof-shaped ridge structure, plastic sheeting (white/green, perforated, reusable up to seven times), and a system with Mypex between the rows that does not require any herbicides. According to the manufacturer, this combination creates the basis for healthy plant development, high yields and maximum profitability in strawberry cultivation – both in open fields and in protected tunnel cultivation.

In outdoor strawberry cultivation, the system ensures stable ridges even during heavy rainfall, thereby reducing the risk of erosion and soil compaction. According to the manufacturer, the choice of colour and material for the film provides excellent climate control for tunnel cultivation, reducing frost and heat damage. The system replaces herbicides, reduces water consumption and enables long-term resource conservation through the reusability of the materials. www.4disc.de

Harlander Landtechnik from Aresing – Hall 1, Stand: E20
Special three-stage rotor for asparagus ridge cultivator

Asparagus ridge cultivators equipped with three-stage rotors can be used on different types of soil. Ridging is possible on all common soil types. A three-stage rotor enables uniform cultivation while reducing the amount of force required. The finer cultivation loosens the soil better and reduces compaction.

As the rotor distributes the work across several stages, the load on the individual beaters is reduced. This leads to less wear and tear and increases the service life of the cultivator. The step-by-step cultivation of the soil reduces the layer thickness of the removal. This leads to more even material removal and forms an asparagus ridge with a loose, crumbly core. The more efficient operation of the three-stage rotor reduces energy consumption and helps to lower operating costs. www.harlander-landtechnik.de

HMF Hermeler Maschinenbau from Sassenberg-Füchtorf – Hall 2, Stand: K11
Hull cutter with innovative enhancements

To combat asparagus flies and fungal infestation, the asparagus foliage is removed from the beds in autumn. The newly developed BÜFFEL weed cutter was already presented to interested visitors at expoSE 2024. However, this year it is being presented with the following further developments:

1.      Front or rear mounting is possible thanks to the integration of two three-point frames. This makes it flexible in terms of use and combination options, even with other soil cultivation machines, to minimise the number of work steps.

2.      Hydraulic drive of the blade discs with variable direction of rotation, so that any blockages caused by plant debris can be easily removed by changing the direction of rotation.

3.      A wedge, placed centrally between the two hydraulically operated blade discs, distributes the asparagus weed cuttings and soil material to the sides of the ridge. This wedge-shaped distribution body is adjustable in both height and angle to ensure optimum alignment with the ridge. There is no accumulation of herbaceous material or other soil material on the ridge, which makes it easier to collect the herbaceous material.

Full field crates are placed on an inlet roller conveyor and automatically guided under the gripper of the loading robot by means of a conveyor belt. A camera analyses the amount of asparagus in the crates and detects the exact gripping height. Empty crates are placed on a roller conveyor for removal. With a capacity of around 24,000 spears per hour, the ASPALOAD impresses with its speed and precision, according to the manufacturer, and sets a new standard in asparagus processing. www.neubauer-automation.de

HMF Hermeler Maschinenbau from Sassenberg-Füchtorf – Hall 2, Stand: K11
Brush cleaning for the automatic asparagus sorting machine

Hermeler Maschinenbau presents brush cleaning for cleaning the light blue collection trays on the ATS AUTOSELECT automatic asparagus sorting machine. It consists of two individual rotating brushes on a swivel arm and has been developed as an accessory for the ATS AUTOSELCT. The cleaner the collection tray, the more accurate the sorting result: the ATS digital camera can better detect individual asparagus spears in a clean collection tray, and the improved detection also results in optimised evaluation. The brush can be used before or after sorting asparagus or other vegetables with the AUTOSELECT automatic sorting machine. www.hmf-hermeler.de

Optiflux from Houthalen-Helchteren (Belgium) – Hall 1, Stand: F20
AI-controlled quality control and flexible, autonomous fruit storage in a controlled atmosphere (CA)

Optiflux, a first-time exhibitor at expoSE, helps the fresh produce industry harness the potential of technology and AI to make fruit quality measurable, predictable and profitable. With Quality Insights, users can photograph fruit crates or pallets to perform automated checks for size, colour and defects. This eliminates the need for subjective sampling and provides growers and retailers with reliable insights on a large scale. The sample size increases dramatically, while fewer manual checks are required, resulting in higher yields with quality data.

OptiPallet provides fruit growers and retailers with flexible controlled atmosphere (CA) storage per pallet. Each pallet is sealed in an individual bag and actively monitored and controlled to maintain ideal conditions with low oxygen and high CO2 levels.  's automated storage system can autonomously manage hundreds of pallets, allowing growers to spread harvest peaks and extend storage by several weeks or even months. With OptiPallet, each pallet can be sold at the right time and at the right price. www.optiflux.world

Dürr Systems from Bietigheim-Bissingen – Hall 1, Stand: E19
Resource-saving cultivation system for the production of lettuce and strawberries

At expoSE, Dürr Systeme EcoY, a first-time exhibitor at expoSE, is introducing an innovative cultivation system for the resource-efficient cultivation of lettuce and strawberries based on Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). It uses sunlight as its primary light source and completely dispenses with artificial lighting. The plants grow in patented vertical planting tubes, which enable high space efficiency and optimal light distribution. A closed water cycle with hybrid hydroponics technology reduces water consumption by up to 95% compared to conventional agriculture. The system is controlled digitally via a platform that precisely regulates all environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, CO₂ and nutrient supply. EcoY enables year-round cultivation without pesticides – regardless of climate, location or season – and is suitable for both urban areas and regions with extreme environmental conditions. The modular system is scalable and offers a sustainable solution for the safe, local food production of the future. www.durr.com

OnlyGreens from Ispringen – Hall 1, Stand: B24
Modular vertical indoor farming

HEPRO from Rheda-Wiedenbrück – Hall 1, Stand: D02
New asparagus peeling machine with side discharge

HEPRO GmbH presents the new "spargel royal" peeling machine for the self-service area of farm shops and supermarkets. For the first time, the peeled asparagus is discharged from the side – which is faster, more elegant and more efficient. According to the manufacturer, the high-quality stainless steel design impresses in terms of both appearance and technology: only two pairs of knives are needed to peel every asparagus 100% perfectly. Cleaning takes less than five minutes. With this innovation, HEPRO is bringing industrial high-performance technology directly to the point of sale, replacing conventional systems and, according to the company, setting new standards in speed, hygiene and design. www.hepro-gmbh.de

TENRIT Foodtec Maschinenbau from Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock – Hall 2, Stand: K13
Self-service asparagus peeling machine for direct marketing and trade

The TENRIT SCHÄLMASTER MINI is characterised by a small footprint of only 0.38 sqm and a high peeling capacity of 1 kg in 20 seconds. It is operated by the end customer, who inserts the spears into the machine one by one. A total of 12 knives peel the asparagus cleanly and collect it in a tray on the opposite side. The peeling area is visible from three sides. The working height of one metre means that customers with disabilities can also use the machine.

The machine only requires a 230V power connection at the location. Underneath the machine is a sliding trolley that collects asparagus peelings and waste water. There is also space on the trolley for a 20-litre fresh water canister. To start up the machine, the trolley is pulled out of the machine and moved to a tap. The operator can check the status of the machine at any time via the interior lighting: a green light indicates that the machine is ready for use, a blue light indicates that the water needs to be topped up, and a red light indicates that the machine is not ready for use. All components can remain in the machine for cleaning. www.tenrit.com

TENRIT Foodtec Maschinebau from Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock – Hall 2, Stand: K13
Intelligent control system for industrial asparagus peeling machines

The PLUS 7000 and PLUS 14000 industrial asparagus peeling machines from TENRIT will be equipped with a new intelligent control system starting this year. The PLUS industrial peeling systems each have two (in the 7000 model) or four (in the 14000 model) peeling lines, whereby the asparagus is placed on a conveyor belt and each spear is fed to the individual peeling lines.

The new intelligent control system makes it possible to deselect individual lines, automatically reduce the feed speed at the loading and discharge belts, and feed the asparagus only to the selected lines. This means that, depending on operational conditions (e.g. only two people available), the machine can peel with only one line and be operated by two people. Knife changes can be carried out during operation, reducing downtime by 50%. www.tenrit.com

FrachtPilot from Münster – Hall 1, Stand: B11
Digital control centre for harvest & sales stands – trade fair premiere of sales stand management

The new sales stand management system, unveiled for the first time at expoDirekt, provides live stock and sales figures for each stand, calculates smart reorder recommendations (including route reference) and offers evaluations of turnover, item performance and loss risks. A live dashboard highlights bottlenecks and top sellers and prioritises subsequent deliveries – ideal for seasonal peaks and decentralised teams (farm shops, market stalls and strawberry/asparagus stalls). The solution is cloud-based, ready to use immediately and integrated into the FrachtPilot suite. Sales stand management is available now – test access via www.frachtpilot.de.

NonStop Shop from Meppen – Hall 1, Stand: D20
Calibrated scales in vending machines for gram-accurate billing

The calibrated scales from NonStop Shop weigh the contents of each of the 430 product trays immediately before dispensing, if desired. This means that loose goods such as strawberries, asparagus or meat do not have to be weighed by hand beforehand by the person filling the machine. What's more, even refrigerated products suffer evaporation losses. These can be considerable, especially in the case of berries and asparagus. For example, to give a customer 500 grams of strawberries, 8-12 grams must be added to the calculation and thus "given away". These losses are eliminated with the scales. Customers and operators are billed to the nearest gram. www.nonstop-shop.de

SmartStore24 from Augsburg – Hall 1, Stand: F01
Asparagus & strawberry box for direct sales

SmartStore24 is presenting the asparagus & strawberry box as a prototype, a turnkey, self-sufficient concept container measuring 3 x 4 m for self-sufficient operation at the roadside. It can be used seasonally and is suitable for any location as long as mobile internet is available. At its heart is the SmartStore POS system, which controls sales, access control and camera surveillance. The container can be opened using a payment card. Customers can move around freely in the shop, just like in a supermarket. Once they have selected their goods, they go through the self-checkout at the till and can then leave the shop. According to the manufacturer, the concept provides a high level of theft protection.

Thanks to a modular shelving system, there are two equipment lines to choose from to provide enough space for product presentation. The exterior of the strawberry and asparagus box can be customised according to the operator's wishes. Power for self-sufficient locations is to be supplied by a PV system on the roof and a battery pack with up to 9 kW of storage capacity, depending on requirements. Direct marketing at roadside locations with and without electricity connections is possible. Unmanned sales in space-saving locations with limited space or as a temporary solution are possible. The delivery time for the Asparagus & Strawberry Box is 6-8 weeks. www.smartstore24.de
