Grüne Woche 2026: 100 Years of Tradition, Innovation, and Taste — The Centenary Edition of the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Food and Agriculture
16–25 January 2026 | Messe Berlin | Partner State: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
The International Green Week (Grüne Woche) in Berlin celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. From 16 to 25 January 2026, the fair will once again bring together representatives of the global food, agriculture, and horticulture industries to present the latest trends, technologies, and products, while shaping the future of food and farming.
As Lars Jaeger, Director of Grüne Woche, emphasizes:
“For a century, the fair has reflected changes in food production and consumption. This year’s edition will be especially diverse and international — with expanded exhibition space and themes that truly influence the future of our food.”
For the centenary edition, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been selected as the official partner state. The region’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr Till Backhaus, notes:
“Grüne Woche is our showcase to the world. It’s a unique opportunity to highlight our region’s strengths: high-quality regional products, innovative businesses, and sustainable tourism. For the first time, as a partner state, we will host the official opening of the fair and welcome national and international delegations to our Hall 5.2b.”
Centennial Exhibition: 100 Years of Agriculture and Innovation
To mark its 100th anniversary, Grüne Woche will feature a special exhibition in Hall 26a, illustrating the evolution of agriculture over the past century. From traditional horse-drawn carriages and the 1926 Fordson tractor to modern agricultural machinery, the exhibition showcases the rapid industrialization of the sector.
Visitors will also see a reconstruction of a historic cooperage from Neu-Zittau and archival footage spanning a century of the fair’s history. The flower hall, themed “Babylon Berlin”, will recreate the atmosphere of the 1920s — paying homage to the era when Grüne Woche was first established.
Key Partners and the Food Sector Take Center Stage
In this anniversary year, Germany’s leading agricultural and food organizations will present diverse initiatives:
The German Farmers’ Association (DBV) will host the ErlebnisBauernhof (Adventure Farm) under the motto “Securing Food. Protecting Nature”, offering practical insights into modern, sustainable agriculture.
The Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE) and the German Food Association will jointly host an interactive stand themed “The Future Tastes Good”, featuring discussions and workshops on innovation in the food sector.
Major retailers such as Schwarz Group, Rewe, Edeka, and Aldi Süd will also be represented.
Diversity from Germany and Around the World
Thirteen German federal states will participate in Grüne Woche 2026 — including Schleswig-Holstein, joining for the first time. North Rhine-Westphalia will highlight the Münsterland region, while Berlin, the host city, will expand its exhibition presence.
On the international front, Côte d’Ivoire will make its debut at Grüne Woche as one of the world’s largest cocoa exporters. Croatia, Malta, and Ukraine will return with official participation, and the Netherlands will celebrate 75 years of continuous presence, being the fair’s first international exhibitor in 1951.
Gathering of Experts and Policymakers: GFFA & Agriculture Ministers’ Conference
Grüne Woche is not only a public fair but also a major meeting point for policymakers and professionals. From 14 to 17 January 2026, the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) will take place under the theme “Water. Harvests. Our Future.” — focusing on water resource protection and global food security.
The highlight of the GFFA will be the Berlin Agriculture Ministers’ Conference on 17 January, where more than 60 ministers of agriculture will gather at the invitation of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMLEH). The ministry will also have its own dedicated hall at the fair, alongside the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Startup Days & Expert Guided Tours
During Startup Days (21–22 January 2026), innovative start-ups from the foodtech and agritech sectors will pitch their ideas to an audience of experts and consumers. A jury of industry specialists will select the Best Startup of Grüne Woche 2026.
For the first time, the fair will also offer curated guided tours for trade visitors, focused on innovation and future-oriented technologies. These tours will take participants directly to exhibitors and start-ups from the agritech and foodtech sectors, providing a compact overview of current developments and opportunities for networking.

ZERO Theme Island & Organic Hall
A new feature of this year’s edition will be the ZERO Theme Island in Hall 27, bringing together around 20 exhibitors dedicated to sustainability and eco-innovation — from upcycling workshops and natural snacks to compostable materials and the World Kombucha Award 2025.
Meanwhile, the Organic Hall (Hall 22a) will return under the motto “Experience Organic”, organized as part of the Federal Organic Farming Programme. Visitors will meet producers and organizations such as Demeter, Naturland, and Bioland, and learn firsthand about the principles and benefits of organic farming.
