Belt and Road Summit 2026: global platform for high-quality development and international cooperation

On 9–10 September 2026, the Belt and Road Summit 2026 will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Regiontogether with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). This year’s edition will be held under the theme “Advancing High-Quality Development • Embarking on a New Journey.”

The Belt and Road Summit has established itself as one of the leading international platforms promoting business cooperation along the Belt and Road. Each year, the event brings together senior government officials, representatives of international institutions, business leaders, investors and industry experts from countries and regions along and beyond the Belt and Road to exchange views on multilateral cooperation and to explore new business opportunities arising from the initiative.

The scale and importance of the Summit were clearly demonstrated by the 10th edition in 2025, which attracted more than 6,200 participants from 71 countries and regions. The programme featured 100 high-profile speakers and facilitated over 800 one-to-one business matching meetings involving more than 300 projects. These results once again confirmed the Summit’s role as a premier platform for Belt and Road cooperation and highlighted the strong international interest in related investment and development opportunities.

The 2026 programme will include a wide range of sessions and activities designed to support dialogue, networking and project development. Among the key elements are the Opening SessionKeynote AddressPolicy DialoguePlenary and Thematic Breakout SessionsSignature Belt and Road Projects SessionsNetworking EventsInvestment and Deal-making Sessions, an Exhibition, and a range of Side Events.

One of the strongest pillars of the Summit remains its deal-making and project investment dimension. The Deal-making Sessions are designed to connect project owners, investors, high-net-worth individuals, intermediaries, family offices and professional service providers through targeted one-to-one meetings. In 2025, these sessions were organised in a hybrid four-day format, combining two days of on-site meetings with a two-day online extension, allowing broader participation from around the world and increasing flexibility for international stakeholders.

The Project Investment Sessions also played a major role during the 2025 edition. Under themes such as Transport and Logistics InfrastructureEnergy, Natural Resources & Public UtilitiesUrban Development, and Innovation and Technology, project owners from around the world presented their ventures to investors and service providers. A new session also highlighted project opportunities in the Middle East and ASEAN markets, while two Signature Belt and Road Projects Sessions introduced large-scale initiatives supported or endorsed by local governments in ASEAN and the Middle East.

The exhibition accompanying the Summit is another important part of the event’s ecosystem. In 2025, more than 120 companies, consulates-general and related organisations showcased their services and investment opportunities. The broad institutional support behind the event was equally significant, with 210 partners and sponsors contributing to the Summit, including commercial and institutional entities, consulates-general in Hong Kong, international chambers in Hong Kong, and overseas chambers from outside Hong Kong.

The profile of speakers at the 2025 Summit underlined the event’s international reach and strategic importance. The programme featured senior officials from the Chinese mainland, including representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the National Development and Reform Commission. International government speakers included officials from Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan. Hong Kong was represented by top officials including Chief Executive John LeeFinancial Secretary Paul Chan, and senior representatives responsible for justice, commerce, economic development, finance and the treasury.

The business community was equally well represented. Among the speakers were executives and business leaders from organisations such as the Oman Investment AuthorityAstana International Financial CentreWeLab BankCapital AFung InvestmentsNan Fung Group, the World Economic ForumFreedom Holding Corp., and CITIC Group Corporation. Their participation reflected the breadth of sectors and regions engaged in Belt and Road-related dialogue and investment.

Against this backdrop, Belt and Road Summit 2026 is expected to further strengthen its role as a strategic meeting point for governments, investors, corporations and service providers seeking to build partnerships and identify new opportunities in a rapidly changing global environment. With its strong focus on high-quality development, international connectivity, and practical business outcomes, the Summit continues to serve as a major gateway for cross-border cooperation and project development.
