New Partnership Between PepsiCo, Mars and ADM Supports Sustainable Agriculture in Poland

9 September 2025

PepsiCo, Mars and ADM, global leaders in the food, beverage and pet care industries, are joining forces and launching a Regenerative Agriculture Program in Poland. The initiative involves 24 farmers and supports them in implementing sustainable practices across a total of 5,454 hectares of farmland. As part of the program, Mars is developing wheat cultivation on 3,359 hectares, intended for the production of pet food brands such as WHISKAS® and PEDIGREE®. PepsiCo, on the other hand, supports sustainable rapeseed cultivation on 2,160 hectares, which provides oil used in products such as Lay’s and Doritos. The initiative supports entire farms through a holistic farm-management model. This approach improves soil fertility, facilitates water management, and strengthens the long-term resilience of agriculture.

As part of pre-competitive collaboration, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of agricultural product supply chains, PepsiCo and Mars will take joint action to support farmers in implementing regenerative agriculture practices in crop rotation systems. This approach consists of planned, seasonal intercropping of different crops, including cereals, legumes, or cover crop mixes, which naturally restore soil resources, improve its structure, and reduce the risk of diseases and pest development. ADM is the program’s implementation partner. The company will play a key role by providing farmers with financial and technical support to facilitate their transition to more sustainable cultivation methods.

Farmers will also gain access to the latest knowledge through dedicated training sessions and the support of technical experts such as Biospheres. The implemented solutions will not only improve soil structure and increase its water retention capacity but also reduce dependence on synthetic inputs, helping farms respond more effectively to challenges related to climate change. To accelerate the implementation of the program and strengthen actions to absorb and store carbon in the soil, farmers will receive additional financial support depending on the practices adopted, such as no-till farming or the use of cover crops.

“Regenerative agriculture is key to restoring soil health, increasing farm resilience, and reducing emissions associated with agricultural production. It brings real benefits to farmers and their livelihoods,” said Archana Jagannathan, Chief Sustainability Officer, PepsiCo Europe, Middle East and Africa. “However, to achieve lasting and broad effects, close cooperation is needed at every stage of the value chain. PepsiCo has been working with Polish farmers for over 30 years. The initiative implemented jointly with Mars and ADM is based on a comprehensive and systemic approach that integrates regenerative practices into different crop rotation models and supply chains. This project also supports our global goal – implementing regenerative, restorative, or protective practices on over 10 million acres by 2030. We see the potential to scale the experience and knowledge gained from the project beyond the borders of a single country or region. The goal is to strengthen the resilience of the global food system in the long term,” she added.

“The cooperation between Mars, PepsiCo and ADM aims to reduce the environmental impact of agricultural product supply chains. The introduction of crop rotation practices allows farmers to implement long-term, environmentally friendly solutions across different crops, which positively affects soil health, reduces carbon dioxide emissions, and strengthens farm resilience. This partnership is an important step towards the development of a more sustainable and responsible food sector,” emphasized Paul Gardner, Vice President Commercial at Mars, Incorporated and Vice President Global Pet Nutrition Commercial.

“We are proud that as part of this collaboration we can support farmers and strengthen supply chain resilience, which is critical to the future of agriculture. ADM’s cooperation with Mars and PepsiCo allows us to use the lessons and data from the project to promote the widespread adoption of regenerative agriculture practices across the country,” said Katherine Pickus, Vice President Sustainability at ADM. “This is also an opportunity to harmonize and accelerate the implementation of regenerative agriculture methods, opening the way to a more resilient agricultural system,” she added.

Poland plays an important role in the development of regenerative agriculture, although its pace of development varies depending on the region and local practices. Valuable information is provided by the Cool Farm Tool (CFT). This sustainability calculator helps farmers assess and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The collected data can serve as a basis for further program development and its expansion into other markets.
