Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2022 – Global Plant Genetics

21 April 2022

Thrilled was the word used by Rupert Hargreaves and Jamie Petchell, co-owners of Global Plant Genetics, on hearing the news that their Norfolk based company had won the Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2022.

Global Plant Genetics is an intellectual property business, protecting and licensing strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, asparagus, grape and nut varieties from world-class breeders. In excess of 70% of the company’s business is in export sales covering all corners of the world. “This is a remarkable achievement for the seven-year-old company and is the highest accolade that a British business can achieve. It is awarded by Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister, and we are immensely proud of this achievement”, said Rupert Hargreaves.

Global Plant Genetics is a remote working business that represents some of the world's very best plant breeders within its product sectors. The company is responsible for developing markets for the varieties that they breed the world over. “It is a huge testament to our team, our breeders and our clients to have achieved this award, especially during the difficulties of the last two years with Covid. We are fortunate that the healthy products in which we are involved are expanding in almost all international markets and while competition is fierce, we continue to take an expanding market share”, commented Jamie Petchell.

The company has significant growth plans for the next five years. Winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2022 will be a huge boost to help drive those growth plans.
