United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) or the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) decided todesignate 21 May as International Tea Day, the world participates to celebrate International Tea Day every year. Thiscelebration aimed to raise issues around tea workers to get a more decent life. As time goes by, with the increasingpopularity of tea becoming the second most consumed drink in the world after water, the meaning of the teacelebration has become more diverse and colorful. Tea production and processing is the main source of occupationfor millions of families in tea-producing developing countries.
Today, tea remains the most widely consumed beverage in the world and also thought to have medicinalproperties that allow people to relieve stress and headaches within minutes of ingesting it. Even though in India,National Tea Day is being observed on December 15, now we all need to celebrate it today as it is the secondInternational Tea Day since it was announced.
The tea production season starts in May for many countries and therefore is observed annually on May 21,according to the United Nations to increase tea production and consumption in all countries. The main goal ofInternational Tea Day is to improve the lives of tea producers and tea workers. Even though tea packer companiesmake big profits, PBB is focused on balancing the economic benefits of business actors in the tea industry on this various. Overall, the purpose of International Tea Day is to improve the standard of living of tea agribusiness actors in line with the value of the final product enjoyed and paid for by tea consumers in various parts of the world.The tea industry has an important role in economic activity in Indonesia in providing employment, especially inremote and economically underdeveloped areas. In Indonesia too, several regions are also known to have delicioustea flavors and are exported to a number of countries.
That’s not a secret, tea also has many health benefits. According to experts, diligently drinking tea can reducecoronary heart disease, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and others. Beauty experts also foundthe benefits of this tea, especially green tea, such as slimming, reducing fat, smoothing the skin, and being used as amixing ingredient for perfume as aroma therapy.
The Indonesian Tea Council, as a forum for all stakeholders in the Indonesian tea industry, continues to play arole in accommodating aspirations and synergizing tea industry stakeholders as well as encouraging, facilitating, andfighting for the interests of agribusiness actors in realizing competitive and sustainable tea agribusiness systems andbusinesses.
In many of its activities, the Indonesian Tea Council has seen and inventoried many problems and helped solvevarious problems in the upstream and downstream sectors of the tea industry, and not only those that are beingexperienced by smallholder tea plantations, but also by large state-owned and private plantations. Taking back theexport market is a priority target for the Indonesian Tea Council at this time. In this regard, coordination with all black tea and green tea producers is continuously encouraged in order to regain the quality level that was achieved by Indonesian tea producers in the past, which is the reason why the world tea packers use Indonesian tea as a raw material for their products. Promotion with various media is important therefore, in addition to coordinating with packers, traders, and tea export entrepreneurs in order to restore the glory of Indonesian tea exports.
Indonesia is the seventh tea-producing country in the world. Authentic Indonesian tea is recognized as one ofthe best teas of its kind. A number of interesting facts about tea, namely the origin of tea have been around for morethan 5,000 years, but its contribution to health, culture and socio-economic development is still relevant and evengrowing today. In the current pandemic condition that we are currently experiencing, tea is one of the herbal drinkchoices that have been proven to have properties to increase endurance in a broad spectrum.
Therefore, at every celebration of International Tea Day every year, activities are carried out to promote sustainableproduction, consumption, and trade of tea, and offer opportunities for actors at the global, regional, and national levelsto ensure that the tea sector continues to play a role in reducing extreme poverty, fighting hunger and protecting naturalresources.
