Gastech 2026 – energy security, LNG, electrification and AI at the centre of the global debate

18 August 2026

Gastech 2026 will bring together policymakers, senior executives from major energy companies, investors, regulators and experts responsible for infrastructure development and new technologies across the energy sector. The conference programme will include around 200 sessions over four days, focusing on changes in global energy markets, security of supply, rising energy demand and investment priorities.

Key areas of discussion will include natural gas and LNG, low-carbon technologies, hydrogen, electrification and the use of artificial intelligence in energy. The organisers have announced the participation of ministers, regulators, executives of global energy companies and representatives of institutions financing major infrastructure projects.

Energy security and infrastructure investment

One of the central themes of Gastech 2026 will be energy security amid rising demand and changing global commodity flows.

Discussions will cover the development of gas and LNG infrastructure, new generation capacity, power grids, energy storage and the investments required to improve the resilience of energy systems.

Another important issue will be the flow of capital between established and emerging energy segments. Participants will examine which markets are becoming new centres of demand, where major projects are being developed, and how governments and companies are seeking to balance security of supply with decarbonisation objectives.

Gas and LNG remain important parts of the global energy market

A significant part of the programme will be dedicated to natural gas and LNG, which remain important elements of the energy strategies of many countries.

Senior representatives of companies including PETRONAS, NNPC, INPEX, Venture Global, Woodside Energy, ADNOC Gas, YPF, Baker Hughes, Sonatrach, Oman LNG, Uniper, PetroChina International, Shell, Eni, ExxonMobil, Chevron, TotalEnergies, Cheniere Energy, Trafigura, ConocoPhillips, Equinor and JERA are expected to participate.

The programme will address new LNG projects, supply contracting, changes in global demand patterns, transport infrastructure and the role of gas in energy systems undergoing transition.

New programme dedicated to electrification

One of the new elements of Gastech 2026 will be the Electrification programme, focused on the growing role of electricity in the global economy.

Sessions will examine the technologies and investment models required to build reliable, competitive and lower-carbon power systems. Particular attention will be given to the development of power grids, energy storage and firm generation capacity needed to support increasing demand.

The electrification of industry, transport and new areas of the economy is also creating a need for greater investment in infrastructure. The programme will examine how operators, investors and governments are preparing energy systems for rapidly increasing electricity consumption.

AI is changing energy demand

A dedicated AixEnergy programme will focus on the relationship between artificial intelligence and the energy sector.

The expansion of digital infrastructure and data centres is increasing demand for reliable electricity supplies. At the same time, artificial intelligence is being applied increasingly to production management, grid operation, demand forecasting, infrastructure optimisation and predictive maintenance.

Gastech will therefore examine AI from two perspectives: as a new driver of energy demand and as a technology that can support more efficient management of energy production and consumption.

Hydrogen and low-carbon solutions

The Hydrogen programme will focus on the current development stage of hydrogen projects and their commercial viability.

Discussions will cover investment flows, production costs, infrastructure development, the creation of reliable demand and the conditions required to scale up hydrogen deployment.

In parallel, the Low Carbon Solutions programme will focus on technologies capable of delivering measurable emissions reductions in energy and industry. Particular emphasis will be placed on commercial viability, financing and industrial-scale deployment, rather than solely on demonstration projects.

Regulators as participants in energy market transformation

Another new element will be the Global Energy Regulators Forum, bringing together regulators, policymakers and energy industry leaders.

The programme will examine how the role of regulators is changing as energy demand increases, electrification accelerates, new technologies emerge and governments place greater emphasis on energy security.

Discussions will focus on the transition from traditional market oversight towards a more active role in creating conditions that support investment and infrastructure development.

Japan as a key energy market

Gastech will also feature the Japan Energy programme, organised in partnership with Japan Energy Summit & Exhibition.

The programme will explore Japan’s energy strategy, its impact on LNG demand, the development of the country’s power system and regional supply dynamics. For international companies, the sessions are intended to provide insight into investment opportunities, partnerships and market access in one of Asia’s most important energy markets.

Ministers and leaders of global energy companies

Gastech 2026 is expected to host senior government and business representatives. Confirmed speakers include energy ministers from Thailand, Türkiye, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Oman, Libya, Papua New Guinea, Senegal and Timor-Leste.

Business leaders will include Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President & Group CEO of PETRONAS; Takayuki Ueda, President & CEO of INPEX; Mike Sabel, CEO and Co-Founder of Venture Global; Liz Westcott, MD & CEO of Woodside Energy; Fatema Al Nuaimi, CEO of ADNOC Gas; Lorenzo Simonelli, Chairman, President & CEO of Baker Hughes; as well as representatives of Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, TotalEnergies, Eni, bp, Equinor, Cheniere Energy and other global energy groups.

The presence of government representatives, regulators, energy companies and financial institutions will provide different perspectives on market developments – from energy policy and regulation to financing, commodity trading and the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects.

Gastech as a platform for investment and strategic decisions

The Gastech 2026 programme reflects the fact that energy transformation today extends far beyond the development of renewable energy sources. Gas and LNG projects, electricity infrastructure, energy storage, hydrogen, low-carbon technologies and digital systems using artificial intelligence are all developing in parallel.

The common priorities are security of supply, rising energy demand, access to financing and the need to build infrastructure capable of supporting a changing energy mix. These issues are expected to form the core of the strategic discussions at Gastech 2026.
