Belgian Minister Commends Biotrop’s Leadership in Sustainable Agriculture During Visit to Brazil
Belgian Federal Minister for Mobility, Climate and Environmental Transition Jean-Luc Crucke visited Biotrop, part of the BioFirst Group, during his official delegation to COP30. The meeting highlighted Brazil’s important role in advancing biological crop protection and sustainable farming, as well as Biotrop’s growing influence in shaping the future of global agriculture.
During the visit, the Belgian delegation met with Biotrop’s executive team to review the company’s newest innovations in biopesticides, biostimulants, and biofertilizers, along with its extensive field programmes supporting grower adoption across Brazil.
As one of the world’s most dynamic agricultural markets, Brazil continues to set an international benchmark for integrating sustainable biological technologies at scale. Biotrop’s on-farm technical expertise and strong relationships with growers were identified as key drivers of this progress.
Brazil’s regulatory environment and rapid market adoption make it a global leader in biocontrol and biorational crop protection. This favourable landscape aligns closely with the long-term strategy of BioFirst Group and supports Biotrop’s planned expansion into Europe — where demand for science-based, sustainable technologies is rising rapidly.
“Our mission is to help growers succeed with solutions that strengthen both productivity and sustainability. Sharing this with the Belgian delegation was a proud moment and shows the potential of biological technologies far beyond Brazil.”
— Jonas Hipolito, President of Biotrop
Within the BioFirst Group, regulatory advancement is a strategic priority.
Karel Bolckmans, Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer and President of IBMA, plays a key role in ongoing policy dialogues aimed at accelerating approval processes for biological solutions in the European Union. Faster regulatory pathways would allow European farmers earlier access to effective, sustainable alternatives already benefiting growers abroad.
The minister’s visit marks an important step in strengthening collaboration between Belgium and Brazil on agricultural sustainability and innovation. It highlights the value of international knowledge exchange in promoting resilient and environmentally responsible food production systems.
